Week 3: The One Thing
Luke 10:38-42 38 Now as they went on their way, Jesus] entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. 39 And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to his teaching. 40 But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.” 41 But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, 42 but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.”
POINT ONE: Distraction Can Look Like Devotion
It’s possible to be busy for Jesus while slowly drifting from Jesus.
Martha’s real problem wasn’t Mary… it was that she’d become distracted from Jesus Himself.
POINT 2: The Presence of Jesus Must Come Before the Work of Jesus
You can’t pour out what you haven’t first received.
John 15:4-5 ESV “Abide in Me, and I in you… I am the vine; you are the branches… apart from Me you can do nothing.”
POINT 3: The Best Things Don’t Happen by Accident
If Jesus is your priority, your calendar should eventually reflect it.
If we don’t intentionally make room for Jesus…something else will gladly fill the space.
