A Leader’s Vision

Joshua 5:13-15

Joshua 5:13-15; Now when Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in his hand. Joshua went up to him and asked, “Are you for us or for our enemies?” 14 “Neither,” he replied, “but as commander of the army of the Lord I have now come.” Then Joshua fell facedown to the ground in reverence, and asked him, “What message does my Lord[a] have for his servant?” 15 The commander of the Lord’s army replied, “  (NIV)

The Rearview Mirror: Leaders learn from history; but they don’t try to re-live it.

You can’t step into what God has for you until you realize the past is the past.

“Be strong and courageous.”

  • Strength is the inner resolve that trust and believes God’s Word.

  • Courage is the boldness to act on the promise God has given.

The Windshield: Leaders look forward to seeing God’s plans for the future.

Prayer without preparation is presumption.

Preparation without prayer is pride.

We do the natural; God does the supernatural.

The Instrument Panel: Leaders understand the importance of spending time in worship.

Three reasons why Joshua removed his sandals:

  • Sandals are man-made.

  • Sandals are covered with the mess of life.

  • You can’t walk barefooted in the desert.
